U-19 Cricket World Cup: India beat SA

16 Jan 2022, Providence Stadium (Guyana):- Skipper Yash Dhull scored a brilliant 82 and Vicky Ostwal (5/28) picked up a five-wicket haul to help India beat South Africa by 45 runs in their opener at Guyana. Dewald Brevis (65) was the top performer for SA before Ostwal and Raj Bawa (4/47) ran through the opposition batting unit. Earlier, Shaik Rasheed also contributed with 31 off 54 deliveries and Nishant Sindhu chipped in with 25-ball 27 cameo. South African seamer Mnyanda struck early to jolt India will dual blows, removing Harnoor Singh and Angriksh Raghuvanshi in the first six overs. India are among the favourites to lift the trophy, having won the recent U-19 Asia Cup and registered wins versus hosts West Indies and Australia in the warm-up fixtures of the showpiece event. India is the most successful team having won four titles in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018. India have also been runners-up in 2016 and in the previous edition of the tournament held in 2020 in New Zealand. India are placed in Group B alongside South Africa, Ireland and Uganda. 

Vicky Ostwal was awarded the Man of the Match award for his splendid effort.
