Sharath Kamal advances to third round

26 Jul 2021: Playing his fourth Olympics, India’s Sharath Kamal advanced to Round 3 after defeating Portugal’s Tiago Apolonia 4-2 here at theTokyo Metropolitan Gym on Monday.

The 39-year old struggled in the first game but pulled himself up just in time to register a 2-11, 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9 win . He won his first match in Olympics at Tokyo 2020.

With this win, he also became the first Indian male player ever to make the third round in Olympics Games.

Kamal’s next competition is the reigning world champion and Table Tennis’ all-time great, Ma Long of China.
