Indian eves keep quarterfinal hopes alive

30 Jul 2021, Tokyo: Indian women beat fancied Ireland 1-0 in group A match here at the Oi Hockey Stadium, here on Friday.

In a hard fought match, where both the teams were unable to end the deadlock even after the end of third quarter. It was only in the 57th minute when a Rani Rampal pass found Navneet Kaur, who successfully found the back of the net. Today’s win is India’s first win after 41 years in women’s hockey in olympics.

In another group A match, Germany thrashed South Africa 4-1. This is India’s first win after three losses to Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain in the ongoing games. Despite toady’s win, India find themselves in a a must win situation where they will have to beat South Africa in their last group match.
