India placed at Group B in Asian men’s handball championship 2022

The 20th Edition of Asian men’s handball championship 2022 will be held in the city of Dammam, from January 18 to 31. The top five teams from this edition will earn direct qualification to the world men’s handball championship 2023 in Sweden and Poland.

India is clubbed in Group B along with Saudi Arabia, Iran and Australia.

South Korea are the most successful team at the Asian men’s handball championship, having won nine titles while Kuwait and Qatar have four times each and Japan twice.

This will be India’s fourth appearance at the Asian handball championship. They had earlier competed in 1979, 1995 and 2018. India’s best finish was 12th in 2018 in 14 nation tournament. India had beaten Bangladesh & New Zealand in that edition. In 1979 India finished 5th in five nation event and in 1995 finished 9th in nine nation event. In both the edition India failed to win a match.
