India down Britain to enter semis

01 Aug 2021, Tokyo: India overpowered European giants Great Britain 3-1 in the quarter-final at the Tokyo Olympics here at the Oi Hockey Stadium, here on Sunday.

Dilpreet Singh scored a brilliant field goal in the seventh minute to give India an early lead. In first minute of the second quarter, Gurjant Singh found the back of the nett to double the lead. After scoring one goal apiece in the first two quarters, India were leading 2-0 at the half time. However, 45th minute Samuel Ward successfully converted a penalty corner to reduce the deficit and brought Great Britain back in the match. 

In dying moments of the match, Hardik Singh scored a brilliant field goal in the 57th minute to seal the match in India’s favour. in the very next minute  off penalty corner to double India’s lead.

With today’s win Team India has qualified for the semi-finals and look well on course to end four decade olympic medal drought. In the semi-final, India will take on on Rio olympic silver medallist Belgium.
