CWG 2022: India thrash Ghana in men’s hockey

31 Jul 2022, Birmingham 2022: The Indian men’s team started its campaign in Hockey at the Birmingham 2022 with a massive 11-0 win over Ghana in Pool B at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre here on Sunday.

India, ranked fifth, opened the scoring against world No. 36 Ghana in the first minute through Abhishek. Harmanpreet Singh (11’, 35’, 53’), Shamsher Singh (14’), Akashdeep (20’), Jugraj Singh (22’, 43’), Nilakanta Sharma (38’), Varun Kumar (39’) and Mandeep (48’) scored the rest of the goals for India.

With this win, Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists India jumped to the second position in Pool B ahead of Wales, courtesy of a +11 goal difference. Hosts England, with two wins from as many matches, are leading the Pool B points table.
