Bhavina Patel reaches quarter finals

27 Aug 2021, Tokyo: Bhavina Patel defeated Joyce de Oliviera of Brazil in Straight sets 12-10 13-11 11-6 to reach quarter finals Women’s Singles Class 4 category of Table Tennis here on Friday.

The Indian paddler saved game points in first and second games and came back after trailing 0-3 in the third game, before winning 11 out of next 14 points against the world number 8 to book herself a place in the quarter finals.

In the quarter finals, Bhavina Patel will be up against world no 2 and defending Paralympics Champion Borislava Peric-Rankovic of Serbia.

The quarter finals will be played later in the day at 15:50 IST.

Former world No 1, Borislava Peric-Rankovic is currently the world No 2. The Serbian is a veteran and one of the legends of the game.

Besides winning gold medal in 2016 Rio Paralympics, Borislava Peric-Rankovic had won silver medals at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and 2012 London Paralympics.
