Asian Champions Trophy 2021: India beat Pakistan, reach semis

17 Dec 2021: India beat Pakistan 3-1 to win their third game to top the league table of the Asian Champions Trophy 2021 here on Friday.

India also sealed their place in the last four and await the semifinal opponents.Today’s game was a story of missed opportunities. There was a lot of bungling by Jarmanpreet Singh on the right flank and Akashdeep Singh was guilty of missing a sitter. India hung onto a one goal lead at half time which had come from a Harmanpreet PC conversion, the only one received till the 4th quarter. Today Harmanpreet Singh had a 100% PC conversion rate as he scored India’s third goal of the second PC received in the 4th quarter.

The third quarter saw Akashdeep Singh give India their second goal from a good field attempt but the misses outnumbered the goals scored. Pakistan pulled one back from a field attempt in the third quarter which ended 2-1 in favour of India.

A mention must be made of the Indian GK Kerkera who made some good saves against few Pakistan attacks. Also the Pakistan defence did a good job in restricting our final tally and they had a fair outing.

India won comfortably in the end but the dominance was not shown. Skipper Manpreet Singh marshalled his boys in the midfield well and was supported by Hardik Singh.

Well done boys, a little bit on the killer instinct and missed chances to be worked on.
