Ravi Dahiya bags Silver Medal

05 Aug 2021, Tokyo: Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver medal after losing 4-7 to two-time World Champion Zavur Uguev of Russia in the men’s freestyle 57kg final at the Makuhari Messe Hall, here on Thursday.

Ravi was fined one point for passivity (i.e. being extra defensive) before a two pointer further increased the Russian’s lead. A two pointer from Ravi brought him back in the contest as the first period ended at 4-2 in favour of the Russian. In the second period Zavur Uguev scored a two pointer and a one pointer, while Ravi Dahiya managed a two pointer as Zavur Uguev pocketed the gold medal after showing great defense in the closing stages against a charged up Indian grappler.

The 23 year old became the second male wrestler to win a silver for India in wrestling at the Olympics, after wrestler Sushil Kumar. This is India’s fifth medal in Tokyo after medals from Mirabai Chanu, P.V. Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain and men’s Hockey team.
