Bajrang Punia bags bronze medal

07 Aug 2021: Wrestler Bajrang Punia won the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 65 Kg category at the Makuhari Messe Hall, here on Saturday.

He defeated Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan 8-0 in the bronze medal match. A couple of one pointers helped Bajrang Punia finish the first period leading 2-0 against Daulet Niyazbekov. In the second period, the Indian grappler scored three two pointers to pocket the match and the bronze medal.

This was India’s sixth medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics thus equaling the London Olympic record of six medals. So far Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting), P V Sindhu (Badminton), Lovlina Borgohain (Boxing), Men’s Hockey Team and Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Wrestling) had won medals at the Tokyo 2020.
