Atanu Das goes down fighting

31 Jul 2021: Atanu Das missed out on a semi-final berth narrowly as he went down fighting to Takaharu Furukawa of Japan 4-6 win in the quarterfinals of men’s singles at the Yumenoshima Final Field, here on Saturday.

Das, was slow to get off the start and lost the first set 25-28, as he shot a 9 pointer followed by a couple of 8 pointers. In the second set, both the archers matched each other shot for shot as shared the spoils. However, he Indian archer

A couple of 10 pointers helped the Indian to take the third set 28-27 and draw parity. With none of the archers will to give in, the fourth set, like the second ended on level scores too.

In the fifth and final set, both archers opened with 9 pointers. However, the second arrow landed on 8 for Atanu while the homeboy hit the bullseye to take a crucial 2 point lead in the decider. A 9 pointer by the Indian from the final proved insufficient as Takaharu scored 8 from his last shot to the set 27-26 and seal a semi-final place for himself much to the disappointment of the India. 

With today’s loss, Indian challenge in Archery also ended at the 2020 Tokyo olympics.
