India’s tour of Australia – Aussies beat India 4 – 3, level the series

Australia, ranked number one in the world defeated India by 4-3 in the second test to level the two-Test series in Bendigo, Victoria, here on Wednesday.

However, it was the Indians who draw the first blood courtesy a sixth minute goal by Akashdeep Singh. In the 13th minute Aussies drew level through Tent Mitton’s strike, as both teams ended the first quarter 1 – 1.

In the second quarter, V R Raghunath put India in lead again in the 22nd minute, only to conceed a goal in the next minute as Jake Whettyconverted a penalty corner. The action continued as captain Raghunath again put India back in lead within two minutes. India went into the half time leading by  3 goals to 2.

In the third quarter, Aussies again equalized for the third time in the match, when Jeremy Hayward sucessfully converted a penalty corner. As temper flared, 4 yellow card were issued (out of which 3 were to Indian player) in the 3rd quarter itself.

With the scores level at 3 – 3, the Kookaburras uped the ante in the final quarter. It was Jeremy Hayward’s late strike, just 6 min from hooter that ensured a 4 – 3 victory for the hosts.

Rupinderpal Singh put India in lead in the 21st minute through a penalty corner. However India could not hold on to the lead for too long, as Jeremy Hayward converted a penalty corner for Australia in 24th minute. At the end of first two quarters the score was 1 – 1.

It was in the third quarter that Australia scored twice. First it was Jeremy Hayward in the 36th minute and seven minutes later Trent Mitton increased the lead for the Kookaburras. Rupinderpal Singh again scored in the 53rd minute to pull one goal back. However his goal only reduced the margin of defeat for India.

The tournament also features Malaysia and New Zealand. India will their play their next match against Malaysia on 24th November.
