Subhankar Dey wins in Portugal

Caldas da Rainha, 12 Mar: It was a Super Sunday for Subhankar Dey. The Indian shuttler maintained his winning spree to emerge men’s singles champion in the 52nd Portuguese International Series Badminton tournament at Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Dey shocked fourth seed Victor Svendsen of Denmark 21-19, 21-19 in 42 minutes. Fifth seed Dey was stretched by an experienced Danish in a hard-fought summit clash but Indian kept his nerves intact to clinch his fifth international title.

With this win, Dey settled the scores with Svendsen, who is ranked 91st in the world. Only last month, Dey had lost to this Danish opponent in straight games at the Austrian Open.

Subhankar Dey enters final of 52nd Portuguese International

New Delhi, Mar 12: Fifth seed Subhankar Dey enters into the final of 52nd Portuguese International Series Badminton  by beating Hungary’s 8th seed Gergely Krausz by 19-21,21-16,21-18 in 61 minutes. His opponent in final will be 4th seed Victor Svendsen of Denmark.

Earlier in quarterfinals Dey defeated Manuel Vazquez of Spain by 21-15,21-15 in just 29 minute.

While in Women’s Category Sali Rane lost a hard fought match to Yee Yap (Malaysia) in quarterfinals in 55 minutes by 16-21, 21-19, 17-21.

Srikanth reaches German Open pre-quarters

Muelheim, March 2: Kidambi Srikanth defeated Yusuke Onodera of Japan in straight games 21-17, 21-18 in the second round of Yonex German Open Grand Prix Gold here on Thursday. Srikant will next face Chen Long of China in the pre-quarterfinals.

Former world number 3, Srikanth has so far lost all the previous three encounters to his Chinese opponent.

However, it was curtains for Subhankar Dey and Harshit Aggarwal. Subhankar Dey went down fighting to Hong Kong’s NG Ka Long Angus 21-14, 21-8 while Harshit Aggarwal lost to Hu Yun of Hong Kong 21-15, 21-11

Srikanth off to a winning start at German Open

Muelheim, March 1: Kidambi Srikanth defeated Alen Roj of Slovakia in straight games 21-4, 21-11 in the opening round of Yonex German Open Grand Prix Gold here on Wednesday.

Srikanth will next face Yusuke Onodera of Japan in the second round. Subhankar Dey and Harshit Aggarwal also booked their place into the next round with hard fought wins over their opponents. Subhankar Dey defeated Zhao Junpeng of China 16-21, 21-17, 21-19 while Harshit Aggarwal overcame some stiff challenge from USA’s Bjorn Segun 18-21, 21-8, 21-6.

In the second round round, Subhankar Dey will face Hong Kong’s NG Ka Long Angus, seeded fifth here. Harshit, on the other hand will take on eighth seed Hu Yun of Hong Kong.

However, it was curtains for Siril Verma, Rahul Yadav Chittaboina and Harsheel Dani in men’s singles, while Tanvi Lad also made a first round exit in the women’s singles.
