Scottish Open 2016 – Pranaav and Sikki Reddy finish runners-up

Top seed Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy went down fighting to the Malaysian pair of Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai in the summit clash of USD 55,000 Scottish Open Grand Prix 2016, held yesterday in Glasgow’s Emirates Arena, Scotland.

The Indian mixed doubles pair lost 13-21, 21-18, 21-16 in a match which lasted for 57 minutes. The Indians were unable to close out the match, after leading 16 – 12 in the final game only to allow the Malaysian pair to win 9 points in a row and with that the match. Even in the second game they squandered the lead, after winning the first game comfortable.

A silver medal finish at the Scottish Open for the pair will certainly help them gain few valuables points as they try to break into top 20. Pranaav and Sikki had won the Brazil Grand Prix in September and Russian Open in October this year.

In the semi-finals they beat the Danish pair of Mathias Christiansen & Sara Thygesen in straight games 21-18 23-21 in a 46 minute encounter.

The Indian duo will now face the winner of other semi-final between the Malaysian pair of Goh Soon Huat / Shevon Jemie Lai and French pair of Gaetan Mittelheisser / Emilie Lefel.

It has been a fruitful last few months for the Indian pair as they had won the Brazil Grand Prix and the Russian Open Grand Prix post Rio Olympics.
