Mandeep’s hatrick saves India

Ipoh, May 3: A timely hat-trick from Mandeep Singh helped India score a 4-3 win over Japan in the 26th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2017 here on Wednesday.

Rupinder Pal Singh gave India the lead in the 8th minute. Japan equalised off a field effort in the 13th minute.

Japan scored another two goals in the 43rd and 45th minute respectively to take a 3-1 lead.

However after this, it was Mandeep Singh show all the way as he scored three goals to save India from blushes.

Junior World Cup 2016: India thrash Canada 4-0

Lucknow: India started their 11th Junior Hockey World Cup campaign on a confident note beating Canada 4-0 in a Pool D match on the opening day at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium here on Thursday.

India opened the scoring in the 35th minute of the match through Mandeep Singh to go into half time with a one-goal cushion.

After failing to convert numerous scoring opportunities, hosts came hard in the second half much to the delight of the home supporters.

In the 46th minute Indians doubled the lead as Harmanpreet scored of a penalty stroke.

Varun converted India’s fifth penalty corner in the 60th minute. With four minutes from the final hooter, Ajit Pandey guided a pass from Manpreet to score the fourth goal of the evening for India.

After today’s comprehensive win, Harjeet Singh – led side had shown why they are regarded as one of the front-runners for the title.

India will next play England on Saturday. While Canada will meet South Africa also on the same day.
