Junior Hockey World Cup 2016 – Spain qualify for Quarters; Belgium, Germany and Malaysia win on day 4

Day 4 #JHWC2016 Ger bt Jpn 6-1, Bel bt Neth 3-2, Malaysia bt Egypt 2-0, Esp draw NZ 3-3Click To TweetLucknow: On the fourth day of the Junior Hockey World Cup 2016, Belgium, Germany and Malaysia were winners in their respective matches, while Spain played out a draw against New Zealand at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

In the opening match of the day, six-time winners and defending champions Germany thrashed Japan 6-1 in a Pool C encounter. With three wins from as many games, Germany topped Pool C and will take on Pool D runners up in the quarterfinals.

The second match of the day turned out to be a close contest as Belgium edged out Netherlands 3-2 in a Pool B game.With today’s win Belgium moved to the top of the pool with six points from two matches.

In another Pool B, last minute entrant Malaysia beat Egypt 2-0 to keep their hopes alive. In their opening match Malaysia were comprehensively beaten 7-2 by Netherlands.

In the last match of the day Spain played out a 3-3 draw with New Zealand. Both Spain and New Zealand finished with four points from three matches. However, the European side advanced to the quarter-finals on the basis of superior goal difference.

Junior World Cup 2016: Germany qualify for Quarters; Belgium, Spain and Dutch score easy wins

Lucknow: Following matches were played on the second day of the 11th Junior Hockey World Cup tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand Astroturf Stadium here.

Match 5: Austria held Argentina were held to 1 – 1 draw in a Pool A encounter. Both the goals were scored in the second half.

Match 6: In Pool B, Belgium got their campaign underway with a comfortable 4 – 0 win over minnows Egypt. Couple of goals were scored by Belgium in each half.

Match 7: In Pool C match, Spain put their campaign back on track with a 4 – 1 win over Japan. In their, opening match Spain had lost 1 – 2 to defending champions Germany yesterday.

Match 8: In another Pool C match, defending champions Germany overcame a one goal deficit to beat New Zealand 2 – 1.

Match 9: In another Pool B match, Netherlands routed Malaysia 7 – 2. Malaysia were invited at last moment after FIH withdrew Pakistan’s invitation.
