Caldas da Rainha, 12 Mar: It was a Super Sunday for Subhankar Dey. The Indian shuttler maintained his winning spree to emerge men’s singles champion in the 52nd Portuguese International Series Badminton tournament at Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Dey shocked fourth seed Victor Svendsen of Denmark 21-19, 21-19 in 42 minutes. Fifth seed Dey was stretched by an experienced Danish in a hard-fought summit clash but Indian kept his nerves intact to clinch his fifth international title.
With this win, Dey settled the scores with Svendsen, who is ranked 91st in the world. Only last month, Dey had lost to this Danish opponent in straight games at the Austrian Open.
