Saina – Sindhu keep Indian hopes alive at All England

Birmingham, Mar 9:PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal advanced to the quarterfinals of the All England Badminton Championships 2017 at the Barclaycard Arena here on Thursday.

PV Sindhu beat Dinar Dyah Ayustine in straight games 21-12, 21-4 in a match that lasted 39 minutes. After a scratchy start, Sindhu took an early 4-3 lead in the first game. The Indian won seven out of the next nine points, as she went into the first game interval with a 11-5 lead. The Rio silver medallist maintained the momentum after the break also to seal the first game 21-12.

In the second game, the Indian took a 9-0 lead early on and just simply destroyed her Indonesian opponent to win the game 21-4 and with that the match.

Former world number one, Saina Nehwal beat Germany’s Fabienne Deprez 21-18, 21-10 in 35 minutes in the pre quarterfinals. In the opening game, Saina was off to a good start Saina as she went into interval leading 11-6. her German opponent tried to comeback into the game as she levelled the score at 15-15. However, the Indian used all her experience and class to clinch the opening game 21-18.

In the second game, Saina took a 11-6 lead against Deprez at the break. After the break the London Olympic bronze medallist continued from where she left as she won 5 out of last 7 points to win the second game 21-10.

However, in men’s singles India’s campaign came to end as HS Prannoy’s lost to Tian Houwei 21-13, 21-5.
