Prannoy wins opening round of Indonesia Open

Jakarta, 14 Jun: H S Prannoy reached the second round with a straight-game win over home favourite Anthony Sinisuka Ginting at the Indonesia Super Series Premier here Wednesday.

Ranked 29th in the world, Prannoy beat World No. 20 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 21-13 21-18 in a 43-minutes. In the next round, he will be up against top seeded Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.

Another Indian in the fray Kidambi Srikanth, also moved into the next round. He defeated Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent 21-15 17-21 21-16 in a match that lasted 56 minutes.

However, it was curtains for B Sai Praneeth following his 14-21 18-21 loss against second seeded Son Wan Ho of Korea in the opening round. Praneeth had entered the tournament following his back-to-back titles at Singapore and Thailand.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty too made a first round exit. The Indian duo lost 9-21, 19-21 against Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
