Independent India won its 1st individual Olympic medal

On 24 July 1952: Wrestler Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav won Independent India’s first individual Olympic medal. At the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, he won bagged Bronze medal in Bantamweight (57 kg) in Freestyle category.

He was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 2001 (posthumously). The Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi, a wrestling venue at for the 2010 Commonwealth Games has been was named after KD Jadhav. He was born on 15 January 1926 in Goleshwar village (Satara district) in Maharashtra.
