On 3rd August, 1932 – Renowned Indian footballer Neville Stephen J. D’Souza was born in Maharashtra.
He was part of the Indian team that finished fourth at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
On 1st December against hosts Australia, he became the first Asian player to score a hat-trick in an Olympic Games.
He finished the tournament as joint top-scorer, with 4 goals in 3 matches. D’Souza played club football for Bombay.
He died of a brain haemorrhage on 16 March 1980.
