On January 6, 1959 – Former India captain Kapil Dev was born in Chandigarh. He captained the Indian cricket team which won the 1983 Cricket World Cup.
In 131 Tests, he scored 5248 runs and scalped 434 wickets. In 225 ODIs, he scored 3783 runs and took 253 wickets.
He was named as the Indian Cricketer of the Century by Wisden in 2002, Kapil Dev is considered as one of the greatest all-rounders of all time. He is the only cricketer to have scored over 5,000 runs and taken more than 400 wickets in Test cricket.
He was also India’s national cricket coach for 10 months between October 1999 and August 2000.
