At stumps, the visitors were struggling at 78 for four; Joe Root and Gareth Batty were batting on 36 and 0 respectively. For India, R Ashwin scalped three wickets while Jayant Yadav, who scored his maiden Test fifty earlier in the day, had picked up one wicket.

Earlier, India resumed the day at 271 for 6 and reached 354 for 7 at lunch on Day 3 with Jadeja batting on 70 and Jayant Yadav batting 26. India scored 84 runs in the morning session of the play for the loss of only one wicket of Ravichandran Ashwin (72).

Jadeja (90) and Jayant (55) continued to frustrate the visitors in the second session as well as India extended its lead to 134 runs, before being bowled out for 417. For England, all-rounder Ben Strokes took five wickets for 73, whereas leg-spinner Adil Rashid scalped four wickets.

England trail by 56 runs with 6 wickets remaining.
