England’s tour of India – 3rd test at Mohali – Day 1

Mohali: India had taken control by the time the first day’s play of the ongoing third test match at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, ended.

Earlier, England won the toss and elected to bat first. India’s new ball pair of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav , bowled brilliantly. But once again it was the feilding that let India down. However Yadav bowled a peach of a delivery to send Hameed back to the pavilion, when the score was 32. Introduction of Jayant Yadav as first change proved to be a masterstroke by Kohli, as he dismissed Joe Root. From the other end Ravichandran Ashwin finally got rid of Alastair Cook, much to the relief of Indian camp. Cook was dropped twice by Jadeja and Ashwin, when he on 3 and 23 respectively. Moin tried to hit his way out but he was undone by terrafic short pitch delivery by Shami. At Lunch, England were struggling at 92 for the loss of 4 wickets.

After Lunch it was Bairstow’s session as he involve in Two half century partnerships, first with Ben Stokes and then with Jos Buttler. At tea England had reached 205 for the loss of 5 wickets, as both Buttler and Bairstow started to look dangerous.

After Tea, Jadeja struck to send back Buttler to the pavilion. Bairstow then had a 45 runs partnership with Woakes. In last few overs both of them were dismissed in quick succession as England ended first day at 268 for the loss of 8 wickets.
