Earlier today, India lost the wicket of overnight batsman Cheteshwar Pujara (47) on the second ball of the day. However, Kohli’s 15th Test hundred and an equally confident 136 by Murali Vijay (his 8th Test hundred) helped India to reach 247/2 at lunch.
Post lunch India lost wickets of Murali Vijay, Karun Nair (13), Parthiv Patel (15) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0) within 45 runs to slump to 307/6. However, Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja (25) took India close to visitor’s first innings score with a 57 run stand for the seventh wicket.
The unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 87 between Kohli and Jayant Yadav (30*) helped hosts extend their first-innings lead to 51 runs by the end of day’s play.
For England, spinners Moeen Ali (2/139), Adil Rashid (2/152) and Joe Root (2/18) accounted for six of the seven Indian wickets to fall.
