51st National Cross Country Championships

51st National Cross Country Championships will be held at Bhillai (Chhattisgarh) on Sunday, the 15th January 2017. The following races will be conducted in the Championships:-


Men – 10Km Women – 10Km

Jr Men (U-20 Yrs) – 8Km Jr Women (U-20 Yrs) – 6Km

Boys Under 18 Yrs – 6Km Girls Under 18 Yrs – 4Km

Boys under 16 Yrs – 2KM Girls Under 16 Yrs – 2KM

Composition of Teams

(a) Men, Women, Junior Men, Junior Women – 6 to run & 4 to score

(b) Boys & Girls under 18yrs & 16yrs – Each unit can send maximum of two athletes in each section.

Team Championships

Team Championships will be worked out in Men, Women, Junior Men & Junior Women sections only.

There will be no Team Championships in Races conducted for Boys & Girls under 18 yrs & 16 yrs. In other words Medals & Merit Certificates will be awarded to First Three places only in these groups.

Eligibility Criteria for Junior Athlete.

(a) Junior Athlete should be in his/her age group as on 15th January 2017.

(b) An athlete can participate in his/her age group only.

Age Brackets

Boys & Girls under 20 yrs – Born between 16.01.1997 & 15.01.1999

Boys & Girls under 18 yrs – Born between 16.01.1999 & 15.01.2001

Boys & Girls under 16 yrs – Born between 16.01.2001 & 15.01.2003

Age Verification

Junior Athletes are required to bring with them original X Standard certificate from recognized Central/State Education Board. Athletes who have not passed X standard OR have not gone to the school at all, are required to bring original Birth Certificate from the concerned Government /Municipal authorities. Athletes who are drop outs should bring original Birth Certificate and also certificate showing date of birth from the school he/she last attended.

Junior Athletes, who do not produce the proof of date of birth as mentioned above, will Not be allowed to participate. A team of Doctors & members of AFI Age Verifications Committee will verify the age of Junior athletes.


Each team is required to bring its Flag and deposit with the organizers.

121st Beighton Cup hockey tournament

The 121st edition of the coveted Beighton Cup will be held from December 19 at SAI Sports Complex, Salt Lake City, Kolkata.

The Beighton Cup is organised by the Bengal Hockey Association, is the one of the Oldest running Field Hockey Tournament in the World.
Punjab National Bank are the defending champions. Last year they beat four-time champions Indian Oil Corporation in the shootout to win their maiden title.
Star players like S.V. Sunil, William Xalxo, Manpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Kothajit Singh, Pardeep Mor, Gagandeep Singh, Nithin Thimmaiah, Deepak Thakur, Devesh Chauhan and Prabhjot Singh are expected to take part in the 9 day tournament.
The teams will be divided into four groups of three each. The top teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
The winners will be bestowed with a prize Rs 3 Lakh while the runners up will be getting Rs 1 Lakh.


District Athletics Association, Gorakhpur is organizing 50th U. P. State Cross Country Championships, 2016 under the auspices of U. P. Athletics Association, on 8th JANUARY, 2017.

Place of Stay The unfurnished accommodation will be available at nearby Guest Houses, from the evening of 7th January, 2017 and not before that. The place of stay will be available up to the late evening of 8th January, 2017.

Since the weather in Gorakhpur will be cold during the Championship, the teams are requested to bring the “Bedding & Warm cloths” for their comfort.

Registration for the upcoming Dehradun Marathon 2016 are in full swing. So far almost 15,000 participants have registered.

Apart from close to 9000 students from all the major schools and colleges of Dehradun, almost 2500 have registered through Online, inaddition to 3000 through Counter registration.

FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup 2016, Lucknow

This year’s Junior Hockey World Cup has 16 participating teams. The teams have been divided into four pools of four teams each.

Dehradun Marathon 2016

The Uttarakhand Police department is organizing Dehradun Marathon 2016 next month, with the theme of Run against Corruption and Drugs. In addition, it is also expected to awake people to fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

The Honourable Chief Minister Harish Rawat will flag off the Half Marathon, which is expected to witnesses about 20,000 participants from across India, including several Olympians and National Champions. In addition to the Half Marathon, department is also organising a 7 km and a 2km Run for Fun to show the solidarity with the cause.

In both Half Marathon and 7 km run, there are separate categories for male and female runners and also a veteran category (45+). To encourage young kids, 7 km run will also have an additional category of below 18 years. In a bid to seek more participation, the department has announced cash rewards worth Rs 10 Lakh in total. The winner of the Half Marathon in the open Men and Women category will get Rs 1 Lakh each. The winners from other categories (except Run for Fun) will also be bestowed with cash awards.

The route of the marathon, which begins from Police Lines, Dehradun is a picturesque one. The Uttarakhand Police department has made adequate arrangements en-route including water and medical aid points. A large number of volunteers have also come forward to make this event a grand success.

1st Elite Women National Boxing Championship 2016 – 17 in Haridwar

Haridwar: Uttarakhand Boxing Association is conducting the 1st Elite (Senior) Women’s National Boxing Championship to be held at Haridwar from 19th to 24th November, 2016 at Police Line, Roshanabad, Haridwar. The tournament is scheduled to be organised under the supervision of “Boxing Federation of India”.

So far almost 400 boxers, coaches and officials including star boxers like MC Mary Kom, Sarita Devi, Pinki Jangra, etc from 34 States and Union Territories are. expected to compete in the Championship in 10 weight categories. Each match in the Competition will consist of 04 rounds of two minutes each, with rest of one minute rest in between the two rounds.

Hon’ble Union Sports Minister Shri Vijay Goel; Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Harish Rawat; Shri Dinesh Agarwal (Hon’ble Sports Minister); Shri Ajay Singh (Hon’ble President; Boxing Federation of India); Shri Rajiv Mehta (Hon’ble President, Uttarakhand Olympic Association) are expected to be present during the opening ceremony on 19th November, 2016 to encourage the players.

Uttarakhand Boxing Association hopes that the Championship will provide opportunity for State level boxers not only to exchange punches with the experienced boxers but also improve their Technique and Tactics. The event is not only expected to encourage boxers but also provide an opportunity to the sports enthusiasts to see their favourite boxers live in action.
