Germany beat India to win 3-Nations hockey tournament

Bengaluru FC proceeds to the pre-quarters of AFC Cup 2017

Bengaluru, May 31: Sunil Chhetri’s 57th minute goal helped the last year’s runners-up JSW Bengaluru FC beat Maziya Sport & RC 1-0 to be crowned South Asian Zonal Champions here at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Wednesday.

With Wednesday’s win, the I-League club finish at the top of the Group E of AFC Cup 2017 on the basis of their better head-to-head record over Maziya Sport & RC.

In another Group E fixture, Abahani Limited Dhaka and Mohun Bagan ended their AFC Cup 2017 Group E campaign with a 1-1 draw at the Dhaka’s Bangabandhu National Stadium on Wednesday.

Federation Cup 2017 – Day 1

Cuttack, May 07: East Bengal played out a 1-1 draw against Churchill Brothers in match 1 of the 2017 Federation Cup here at the Barabati Stadium on Sunday.

In the 65th minute Wedson Anselme, put the Kolkata based club ahead. However, the Red and Golds failed to hold on the lead as Ghanefo Kromah scored the equalizer in the 80th minute.

In match 2, Aizawl FC managed to pull off a 3-2 victory against Chennai City FC after trailing by two goals at the end of first half. Charles De Souza put Chennai ahead in the 13th minute. In the 39th minute Edwin Vanspaul doubled the lead. Mahmud Al-Amna’s goal in the 53rd minute reduced the margin to 2-1. In the 62nd minute Laldanmawia scored his first of the two goals of the match as the recently crowned Hero I-League champions drew parity. Laldanmawia’s second gaol of the match in the 81st minute helped Aizawl FC complete a tremendous comeback.

The top eight teams of the recently concluded I-League season will fight it out for the premier cup competition in Indian football. The teams are divided into two groups of four teams each. The winner of 38th Federation Cup will represent India in the AFC Cup, alongwith Aizawl FC.

Santosh Trophy – Bengal – Goa share points; Services win on day 5

Goa, Mar 16: Bengal strengthen their position at the top of the table following their goalless stalemate against Goa in Group A clash of the 71st Santosh Trophy at the GMC Bambolim stadium here on Thursday.

Coming on the back of two consecutive wins against Chandigarh and Services, Bengal started strongly against Goa. Bengal dominated the game, but couldn’t get past the Goan defence. Francis Zountlunga scored the winner in the 8th minute from a penalty spot. Though Chandigarh tried their best to find the equalizer, eventually it eluded them to leave the pitch empty handed.

Following the result, Bengal are at the pole position with seven points from three matches while Goa have four points from two games.

In another group A match played earlier at Tilak Maidan in Vasco, defending champions Services opened their account with a 1-0 in over Chandigarh. After today’s match, Chandigarh has three points from same number of  games while Services has three points from two matches.

Santosh Trophy – Kerala beat Railways; while Punjab – Mizoram play draw on day 4

Goa, Mar 15: Jobby Justin’s brace helped Kerala beat Railways 4-2 in a group B match of the 71st Santosh Trophy clash at the GMC Bambolim stadium here on Wednesday.

Railways took the lead through Rajesh Soosanayakam in the 18th minute. However, Kerala equalised within 3 minutes with Jobby Justin scoring in the 21st minute. Kerala took the lead at the stroke of half time, this time Justin scoring in the added time.

In the second half, Kerala were gifted a third goal when Railways Deepak Kachhap scored an own goal in the 63rd minute. Kerala captain Usman made it 4-1 in the 72nd minute. Railways scored another goal through Soosanayakam in the 86th minute but it came a bit too late.

In the second match of the day at Tilak Maidan in Vasco, Punjab and Mizoram played out a goalless.

Santosh Trophy – Mizoram and Punjab emerge victorious on day 2

Goa, Mar 13: 2014 champions Mizoram started their campaign with a 3 – 1 win over Maharashtra in a group B match played at the GMC Bambolim Stadium.

V. Lalmalwsma Vanchhawng’s 8th minute goal gave Mizoram early lead. In the 12th minute Under-21 player Rahul Das’ goal helped Maharashtra draw parity. Lalfakzuala’s goal in the 44th minute ensured that the north-eastern side went into half time leading 2-1. In the 51st minute, F Lalrinpuia scored the third goal for Mizoram.

In the second match of the day played at Rosary Ground in Navelim, Punjab defeated Railways 2-1. Under-21 player Manvir Singh’s 16th minute goal ensured that Punjab went into the break leading 1-0. In the second half Railways tried to draw parity and their efforts bore fruit aswell when in the Rajesh Soosanayakam scored in the 59th minute. However, Railways’ joy was short lived as Rajbir Singh’s goal put Punjab back in lead.
