ISL 2016 – Match 56 – Vineeth powers Blasters into semis

After a goalless first half, CK Vineeth scored the only goal of the match in the 66th minute, much to the joy of the about 54,000 home supporters.

With this win the 2014 runners-up entered the semi-finals of Hero ISL 2016. In semis, they will meet Delhi Dynamos FC. While the Highlanders’ journey came to an end as they finished 5th in the Points Table.

It was an aggresive start by both teams. Jerry Lalrinzuala put Chennaiyin FC ahead in the 4th minute but their lead was for only two minute as Rafael Coelho Luiz equaliser. Chennaiyin took the lead again in the 14th minute, as Grégory Arnolin scored an own goal but FC Goa managed to equalise in 21st minute through a penalty and Jofre González Mateu didn’t missed oppurtunity. Hero of Match in previous encounter Dudu Omagbemi put Chennaiyin in lead in the first half in 28th minute. Chennaiyin FC was leading 3-2 at Half time.

The second half started off on a contrasting note, as the game lacked the fire of the first. Halfway through the second half however, the tempo quickly stepped up as Sahil Tavora evened the scores for FC Goa in 68th minute. Soon after, Rafael Coelho Luiz put hosts Goa in the lead for the first time in the match in the 76th minute. Chennaiyin FC were able to get back into the game when Raju Gaikwad committed an awkward handball inside the penalty. John Arne Riise put it away to equalise the scoreboard 4 – 4 once more in 88th minute. In the dying moments of the game, Sahil Tavora ran in from the left and drilled in a goal in scintillating fashion. This turned out to be the match-winning goal for the hosts.

After today’s match, both FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC end of their this season’s campaign. FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC finish with 14 and 15 points respectively.

ISL2016 – Match 52 – Highlanders keep their semis hope alive

NorthEast United FC beat Delhi Dynamo FC 2 – 1 in an Indian Super League match played today at Indira Gandhi Athletic stadium in Guwahati.

Seityasen Singh put North East United ahead in the 60th minute. A brilliant assist by Robert Cullen helped Koffi N’DRI double the lead in 71st minute. For Delhi Dynamos, Marcello Pereira scored in the penultimate minute, but his goal only reduced the margin of defeat for Delhi.

The win kept NorthEast United FC’s hopes alive of making it into the top four. Today’s defeat didn’t have any impact on Delhi’s chances, as Dynamos have already qualified for the semis.

The Highlanders will play Kerala Blasters FC in a virtual quarter-final to decide who claims the 4th spot. While, Delhi will play Mumbai City FC in their last league match to decide which team tops the table.

Affan Yousuf’s brace helps India beat Australia 3 – 2

A brace by Affan Yousuf within one minute helped VR Raghunath led side beat hosts Australia in the opening match of two match series in the first of two Tests in Bendigo, Victoria on Tuesday.
After a goalless first quarter. The 22-year-old struck twice in the second quarter to put vistors in command. Courtesy, Affan’s two brilliant field goals India, ranked sixth in the world went into the half time leading the Kangaroos by two goals.
The world champions manged to equalise through field goals from Matthew Willis and Trent Mitton in 36th and 43rd minute respectively. However, in the next minute only VR raghunath netted the match winner through a penalty corner to put India in lead again.
India managed to see off the host in the final quarter to win the match 3 – 2.

CK Vineeth gave visitors lead in the 8th minute, before the Scottish player Stephen Pearson equalised for the hosts in the 18th minute.

After this draw Atlético de Kolkata became the only team to qualify for semis of all three editions of the Indian Super league. This draw also ensured that Delhi Dynamos FC qualified for semis for the 2nd time in two years.

Richard Gadze too a brace (51′ and 57′) for the home team. However it was Fulgano Cardozo who put the visitors in lead in the 31st minute.

After today’s win Delhi climbed to the second spot of the ISL standings with 20 points. Whereas the Gaurs, who finished runners up are at the bottom of the table with 11 points from 13 matches.

With this win, Delhi remains the only unbeaten home side at ISL 2016 with three wins and four draws. Another couple of points from their last two away games should ensure Delhi their second consecutive semi-final appearance.

The Nigerian put the hosts in lead in 34th minute. Velez equilized for the Highlander’s in the 38th minute. Dudu scored his second goal just before the half time, as the hosts went into the break leading by two goals to one.

Just six minutes into the second half, the Argentine Nicolás Vélez brought the vistors on level terms. In the the 81th minute, Dudu scored his third goal of the evening, much to the delight to home supporters. Just when it looked that the Chenaiyin FC will walk away with full three points, a late injury-time goal by Shouvik Ghosh stunned the 25,000 odd spectators.

After today’s match, NorthEast have 15 points from 12 games, while defending champions Chennaiyin FC find themselves virtually out of a semi-finals as they now have 15 points from 13 games.

Belencoso put the inaugural champions Atlético de Kolkata ahead in the 32nd minute.  Mandar Rao Desai scored the equaliser in 80th minute, to keep the home side’s hopes alive. But in the dying moments of the match, Stephen Pearson struck the ball past Laxmikanth Kattimani to seal the match in Kolkata’s favour.

After today’s match FC Goa has 11 points from 12 matches and find themselves virtually out of the semi-final. Atlético de Kolkata now has 18 points from 12 matches and has kept their hopes of reaching semi-final for third time in as many seasons.

After today’s win the Mumbai FC not only consolidated its top spot with 22 points from 13 matches, but also became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the third season of Hero India Super League. While Chennaiyin FC now find themselves virtually out of the semi-final race with 14 points from 12 matches.
